As the Humane Society continues to publicize, this community is in trouble when it comes to cat overpopulation.  However, as of today, there is a dire crisis at hand.  The Humane Society is over its capacity to house and care for cats.

Each and every day, the Humane Society receives approximately 40 -50 cats over the counter.  They are brought in for a number of reasons; some are stray, some are simply surrendered by their owners.  In the case of stray cats, the shelter is required to hold them for a full five days, in case their owner is looking for them.  More cats are brought to the shelter than are adopted on any given day. This means that cats have the greatest risk of being euthanized.  Owners surrender their cats for a variety of reasons, but in most cases, they are not emergency situations.  If you are considering surrendering your cat to the Humane Society, please check out the resources below first.

For behavioral issues, this is a great resource:  http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/cat-care/

If you believe your cat may have a medical issue, please consult with your local veterinarian.

If you must leave your home and move to an apartment, there are many pet-friendly housing options:  www.forrent.com OR www.google.com(simply put “pet friendly housing (your city here)” in the search bar)

If you need financial assistance with spaying or neutering your cat, please check out our CatS.N.I.P. program.
